Convert line graphics into centerline SVG and DXF for laser and CNC

Centerline Vectorization detects the middle of strokes in line drawings, lettering, diagrams, signatures and cutting patterns, then converts them into editable centerline paths. Use it when the drawn line itself should become the machine path for laser cutting, scoring, marking, CNC engraving, or pen plotting.

  • Center paths instead of double-edge outlines
  • Less manual redrawing and duplicate-path cleanup
  • Editable SVG and DXF for laser, CNC and plotting workflows

One center path instead of two outlines

Centerline Vectorization follows the middle of each visible stroke instead of tracing both edges. The result is focused line geometry for jobs where the line itself defines the intended laser, tool, or pen movement.

  • Centerline paths

Each visible stroke becomes an editable vector path that follows its center rather than both outer edges.

  • Open and closed vectors

The output can contain open or closed paths based on the structure of the source line graphic.

  • Cleaner path structure

Focused centerline geometry reduces double-edge paths, unwanted repeat passes and manual cleanup.

The export contains editable vector geometry, not machine settings. Set power, speed, depth, kerf, tool compensation and operation order in your laser or CAM software before production.

When to use Centerline Vectorization

  • Input - Stroke-based raster graphics

High-contrast line drawings, scans, lettering, signatures, diagrams and patterns with clearly visible strokes.

  • Output - Centerline SVG and DXF

Editable open and closed centerline paths for compatible vector, laser, plotting and CAM software.

  • Best for - Laser, CNC and plotting workflows

Laser and CNC operators, technical designers, model makers, sign makers and pen plotter users.

  • Workflow - Line-following operations

Use the geometry for slits, perforations, scoring, marking, CNC engraving, scribing, or plotting. Machine settings determine the operation.

Output formats

  • SVG

    SVG - Editable Centerline SVG

Stroked centerline paths for LightBurn, xTool, compatible design software and pen plotting. Assign cutting, scoring, or line-marking settings after import.

  • DXF

DXF - Centerline DXF for CNC/CAM

Open or closed centerline geometry for CNC engraving, scribing and toolpaths that run on the selected vectors. Configure tool depth, offsets, feeds and other settings in CAM.

See raster strokes become centerline paths

Compare the source line graphic with the centerline result to see how each visible stroke becomes a center path rather than two edge outlines.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop your file anywhere

Drop a JPEG or PNG line drawing, scan, signature, diagram, or pattern anywhere on this page to open it directly in the workspace.

  2. 2

    Review the detected centerline paths

Choose Centerline Vectorization and inspect how the visible strokes become focused, editable centerline geometry.

  3. 3

    Export and configure the operation

Download SVG or DXF, verify the imported dimensions and assign cutting, scoring, marking, plotting, or CNC settings in your production software.

FAQ

It detects the middle of visible strokes and converts them into editable open or closed centerline paths. Unlike outline tracing, it avoids creating two edge paths around each stroke.

Use Centerline when a drawn stroke should define the route followed by the laser, tool, or pen, such as slits, score lines, technical linework, signatures, CNC marking, or pen plotting. Use Contour Vectorization for closed boundaries around shapes and part cut-outs. Use Tonal Line Vectorization for detailed linework derived from contrast, texture and tonal variation in photographs and complex images.

High-resolution, high-contrast line drawings, scans, lettering, signatures, diagrams and patterns with clear, continuous strokes work best. Blurred lines, heavy compression, shadows, filled silhouettes, broad solid shapes and photographic texture can produce less predictable geometry. Intersections and complex junctions may require inspection or editing after conversion.

Yes, when the line itself represents the intended machine route. Centerline paths suit slits, perforations, living hinges, scoring, line marking, CNC engraving and scribing. Use Contour Vectorization when you need a closed outer boundary for cutting out a part and use a fill or raster workflow for engraved areas.

The files provide editable centerline geometry for import into compatible laser and CAM software. The vectors define path position, not the final cut or mark width, which depends on the beam, tool, material and machine settings. Before production, inspect the paths and dimensions, then configure power, speed, depth, kerf, tool compensation and operation order.
